Children's learning and development
We base our planning on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, which is designed to meet the developmental needs of children from 0-5 years old. There are seven areas of learning in the Foundation Stage which are divided into 3 Prime areas and 4 Specific areas. The Prime areas are Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; and Physical Development, and these all underpin development in all other areas. The Specific areas are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. These include the essential knowledge and skills which children need to participate successfully in society. We plan for each of these areas, both indoors and outdoors. The EYFS emphasises the importance of play, the uniqueness of each child, positive relationships, a stimulating learning environment, involving families, creativity, inclusive practice, keeping safe, health and well-being. We are committed to delivering on all of these values.
Regular planning and evaluation meetings take place involving all staff. This is done in order to meet the needs of the children, both individually and collectively. Planning focuses are displayed in the Nursery for parents to look at.
Keypersons make sure each child makes good progress and keep records about each child’s learning and development. This progress is shared with parents every term who also have an opportunity to discuss their child’s next learning steps.
