Applying for a place
Ethelred Nursery School manages its own admissions process using Local Authority (LA) and Department for Education (DfE) criteria and guidance. Application forms are available directly from the nursery school or you can complete and submit our enquiry form on our website.
Once your child is 1.5 years old you can come along to the nursery school and fill in a form to express your interest in a nursery place at Ethelred. You can either complete the online enquiry form or pop into our site for a paper version to complete and return to us.
Parents/carers are encouraged to visit the school during the application process to meet the Head of School, Melanie and experience at first hand Ethelred’s unique learning environment, thereby ensuring the provision meets their expectations and their child’s needs. These appointments are on Wednesdays and held in the nursery class, throughout the school day. During this time your child will have the opportunity to play in the nursery while supported by a member of staff. During your appointment Melanie will talk to you about your child and complete a more detailed admissions form, if not already completed. You will also have the opportunity to look around the nursery and meet some of the staff. This is a good time for you to ask any questions that you may have.
Once you have had this meeting with Melanie you are free to return to the nursery every Wednesday to the Step into Nursery sessions, where you and your child will become familiar with the staff, routines and expectations at nursery. This is key to helping your child settle in well once they start.
Most of our places are offered to families for children to start in September. We will contact you in late spring to offer you a place for your child, and ask you to confirm your acceptance. By the summer we will confirm of this is a full or part time place. During the summer term you will also be invited to come along to the nursery for our induction event. During this event you will have the opportunity to meet the staff, other children and parents and your child's Key Person.
Prior to your child's start date your Key Person and 1 other member of staff would like the opportunity to visit you and your child in your home. This is a key stage in the settling in process for your child, as they get to meet staff in a relaxed way, in their own environment. During this time we will talk to you about your child's personality and the things they like and dislike.
