All the children were given a World Book Day special £1 token: parents, don't forget to go to participating bookshops to get a £1 book - you can choose from a special display, or use the token towards a book of your own choice. Anyone for the Gruffalo?
, 03 Mar 2017 11:17:23 GMTEthelred Development News III
We were very excited to have our first site visit to look at the new school building now under construction. Columns and floors are built (no walls yet) and we got a real sense of just how spacious the new building will be once it's finished, with lovely high ceilings and lots of curtain glazing. The internal playground was full of machinery, materials and the huge crane, but we could still see that it's going to be a really useful big area. Loads of potential, loads of space and loads of excitement in anticipation!

{gallery:Ethelred development site visit 24 February 2017}
, 03 Mar 2017 11:33:54 GMTNursery Visit to Chinatown
As part of our Chinese New Year celebrations, a group of our children visited Gerrard Street in Soho today, enjoying the colourful sights, bustling sounds and characteristic smells of Chinatown. The children loved the traditional chinese red lanterns and were intrigued by the smells of durian fruit and star anise. Special thanks to our parent volunteers who helped us to make the trip fun and educational for the children.
, 17 Jan 2017 16:35:44 GMTEthelred Development News II
The photo, taken from the roof of Brittany Point, shows the new Nursery and Children's Centre building rapidly taking shape. The road to the top left is Kennington Road, and you can see the petrol station roof behind the amazing crane tower (top centre).

The school building is up to roof level - see the three rectangular roof lights in a row - and on the left hand side where the roof boarding is lower around a lift shaft, the lower area shows where the new adjoining 16-storey apartment block will be. The area at ground level around the crane tower in the centre will be the playground, and there are two more playgrounds at first floor level, which you can see to the bottom left and just to the right of the crane tower. The long grey rectangle to the right of the photo is the existing boiler house, which is being retained.

The building works are on schedule to complete in late spring 2018.

, 17 Jan 2017 16:37:02 GMTNursery School Chinese New Year
Over the Chinese New Year, we will be looking at Chinese culture by exploring Chinese food and cooking with the children, trying out some calligraphy, eating with chopsticks, finding out about the story of the Chinese New Year and modelling a Chinese takeaway restaurant in the Home corner. Why not take your child to the celebration and parade in Chinatown on Sunday January 29th?
, 10 Jan 2017 14:47:54 GMTNursery School Traditional Tales
One of our themes this half term is Traditional Tales. We will have great fun reading and telling familiar stories together such as Red Riding Hood and The Gingerbread Man, with a special focus on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children will act out the stories, create artwork and make up tales of their own to tell. There will be a special visit to the Dragon's Den, a magical place made especially for the telling of spellbinding stories and tall tales, at Roots and Shoots.
, 10 Jan 2017 11:22:25 GMTNursery School Christmas Performance
At the Nursery School yesterday, we held our annual Christmas Performance. The children sang songs together and performed a Christmas story, families and friends enjoyed the show, mince pies and mulled wine, and Santa came by to wish everyone a merry Christmas and give presents to the children.

Wishing all our children, families and staff a very merry Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year!
, 14 Dec 2016 15:01:11 GMTCharity Food Collection
The nursery has been collecting food and other goods from parents, carers and staff at Ethelred to support Ace of Clubs, a local charity in St Alphonsus Road, Lambeth which gives help and support to homeless, vulnerable and marginalised people in the local area. We've collected lots of tins and packets, items of clothing and toiletries, which Ace of Clubs will give to those most in need. We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed so far - it really does help and shows those most vulnerable that people do care. If you'd like to do more by donating to Ace of Clubs, you can do so by clicking here.
